I like these a lot - and they look very good together.

I need to know a bit more about the boards you're using - I'm intrigued!

Thank you, Katherine. The palette is pretty much the same, as you can see, #2 is facing west and #1 is facing south. The board I'm using for pretty much all of my plein air sketches are Artspectrum Colour Fix. I've got a couple of favourite colours: notably aubergine/elephant for the greyish purple, but these were a beige/sand for #1 and a slightly green light blue (haze?); the time spent there was rather short, so these got a bit more body once back home: I did find it difficult to mute the light background at first.

For most of my larger scale, studio pieces I make my own boards: often it'S simple greyboard (though I'm thinking of upgrading to mounting board); couple of layers of acrylic primer (well: emulsion paint); a couple of layers of pumice/acrylic paint/water (equal portions), this is considerably more uneven which for some of the larger pieces works very well; but I will try to sand it down in between layers to see if I get something inbetween uneven diy and colourfix. But re Colourfix: the current batch I have is a serious botch job, the ground is so uneven that it gets difficult to work with it at all.
